Tool Bag
Every locksmith needs a decent tool bag and I recommend buying one that comes with all of the basic had tools included so you don’t have to spend time buying them all individually.
Cordless Drill
You will be using a drill everyday to fit locks, drill open locks and adjust wooden doors so make sure you invest in a good quality one that will last.
Chisels
A set of decent chisels is a sign of a decent locksmith! You will need nice sharp chisels to fit locks and the last thing you want is a blunt chisel which will not only make your work more labor intensive – you also risk damaging the customers door.
Drill Bits
You will need drill bits for both metal and wood including flat ‘spade bits’ for drilling larger holes to fit locks. I recommend going for a set that has a mixture of everything.
Electric Pick Gun
In my online locksmith course I teach with the HPC electric pick gun. I have opened thousands of locks with this so its not just a suggestion, I highly recommend it!
Manual Pick Gun
Manual pick guns save hours when it comes to picking locks. You are essentially just bouncing the pins to create a shear line in one click! I give an in-depth lesson on this in my online locksmith course.
Lock Pick Set
You will find hundreds of lock-pick sets on the internet with many different shapes and designs, but don’t worry about this too much, most professional locksmiths use only 1 or 2 picks!

Don’t get confused with the hundreds of shapes and sizes – go for quality over quantity. Here are a list of other picks available on Amazon: http://thelocksmithmentor.com/manual-pick-gunsLetter box tool
I use my letter box tool nearly everyday and have had the same one for years! There are many available now, even advanced ones with cameras and electric motors for turning the handle on the inside of the door. I have found my simple one works just fine and nothing can go wrong with it!
Cylinder Snapper
Every locksmith needs to have one of these in his/her tool bag. They are used for snapping a euro or oval cylinder in the door when picking or bypassing is not possible.

My favorite tool of them all and the cheapest! I always carry a piece of Mica in my pocket as it’s the most used tool of them all. In Europe, most doors are only held by a sprung latch, Mica is used to slide between the door and the frame to push the latch in and open the door.
Super Mica bypass sheets for locksmith tools
Simple but extremely effective – just how I like it! More options from Amazon here: http://thelocksmithmentor.com/mica-cardsPlug Spinner
This handy tool will save you time when you have picked the lock in the wrong direction – Simply insert the tool into the plug and with one click it will spin the plug the opposite way past the shear line!
Lock Picking Plug Spinner “Flip-it”
Great tool to spin the plug back when you have picked the lock the wrong way – Must have for a professional locksmith. For more spinners on Amazon, visit:[learn_press_profile]
